It’s wonderful to see more plays and musicals and a diverse range of performing artists coming to The Coromandel and sprouting from our homegrown talents, creating entertainment for our communities. Here’s a selection of upcoming performances.

Daylight Atheist by Tom Scott, Coromandel Town

A funny, fierce, and profoundly moving play, performed by James Davis, and written by Tom Scott about his father. Irishman Danny Moffat tells stories of his life. Tickets on sale at Coromandel Information Centre, $25. This play was curtailed by our first Covid lockdown, so we are privileged to have it back!

There is a series of shows from you to select from, starting on Friday night at the Hauraki House Theatre.

Mamma Mia, Thames

Sophie is about to get married on a small Greek Island in the Mediterranean. She has secretly invited three men, all of whom are candidates for her father. What will her mother, Donna, think of this lovely surprise? A delightful story full of whimsical characters and an array of ABBA number 1 hits from the 70s. What’s not to love?!

This production was partially funded by the last Creative Communities Scheme. Our Board will be judging the submissions for the latest round of funding.

The shows are almost sold out so snap up the last few tickets while you can.

The Wedding Dress: A Musical Play, coming soon!

This one is hot off the press. Coromandel Players presents: The Wedding Dress, a musical play written, composed and to be directed by Coromandel local Brooke Dennehy Lakin. It based on the secrets of a wedding dress passed down from generation to generation. It sounds like a hilarious premise for a musical comedy. Initial meeting to discuss roles, line up the auditions and hear some of the songs, will be held at Hauraki House Theatre on 1st May.
