COROMANDEL COMMUNITY ART COUNCIL
The Arts Council was created in1982 and established a gallery for use by local artists in the old Kapanga School building in the centre of Coromandel Town.
The school had closed in 1977 and the beautiful old 1879 building was threatened with demolition. It was saved by locals who established the Hauraki House Committee who, along with funds from Lotteries Commission and support from The Thames-Coromandel District Council, restored the building and put it to good use.
The Arts Council shares the building with the Coromandel Players and the Coromandel Youth group.
From time to time the Arts Council also promotes or creates other artistic projects in Coromandel.
