Do you or your community have an arts project or initiative you’re keen to get off the ground? The Creative Communities Scheme could be just what you need!

What is the Creative Communities Scheme?

The Creative Communities Scheme (CCS) offers funding for creative projects within the Thames Coromandel District. Backed by Creative New Zealand, CCS aims to increase participation in the arts, broaden the range and diversity of the arts available to communities and enhance and strengthen the local arts sector.

Who assesses the Creative Communities Scheme Applications?

Us! Creative Coromandel assesses CCS applications and allocates the funding for successful applications. Creative Coromandel is made up of arts passionate, community-minded representatives from every ward on the Coromandel Peninsula, meaning your application is assessed by the people who know our local communities and arts sector.

How can we help you create a successful application?

We are in a unique position to offer advice on how to create a successful application. If you have question about your application, please feel free to email it through here.

Creative Communities Scheme: March 2021
Creative Communities Scheme: September 2020

Do you have an insider knowledge on successful applications?

As the assessment panel, we most certainly do! Here are some comments from the panel on a couple of the stand-out applications from the last round of funding:

Applicant: Thames Museum Society
Project: Murals for Taonga Maori Gallery
Assessor comments:

This is a good one because it (a) blurs the boundaries between heritage and arts (b) involves a key mural artist from Thames (c) and certainly not least of all, this is a small-town museum honouring tangata whenua in a very early European goldmining town.

Applicant: Sean Kelly
Project: Sean Kelly & The Super 8’s Coromandel Tour
Assessor comments:

These guys are performing at different venues around the Peninsula and are blending Irish music with a background of old film footage of Irish countryside.  Nice blends of art forms, and again linking arts, culture, heritage.

When do I need to submit my application?   The March funding round is now open, click HERE to read the funding criteria and to download an application form. Applications close Friday 25 March 2022.
