Artists and organisers were thrilled with the response, noting a strong sense of community support and enthusiasm from locals and holiday-makers. The variety of art styles and the welcoming atmosphere at each hub were key highlights frequently mentioned by visitors.

The Whangamatā Easter Art Trail has been growing each year, establishing itself as a significant cultural event on the town’s calendar. Planning is underway to build on this year’s success for an even bigger 2026 event.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the artists, volunteers, and visitors who made the trail a vibrant and memorable celebration of creativity.

Coming up for the collective:

The Whangamatā community is again coming together to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year, with a vibrant series of events from June 20 to 22. Building on the strong relationship between the Whangamatā Art Collective, the local iwi, and the Marae committee, this year’s celebrations promise to be fun and deeply meaningful.

Throughout the three days, the public will be treated to a range of activities designed to honour the spirit of Matariki. Highlights include a traditional hāngī, live entertainment, and a variety of creative and informative workshops led by local artists and iwi representatives. These events aim to share the significance of Matariki, weaving together storytelling, art, and cultural connection.
The Whangamatā Art Collective is proud to work closely with the Marae and iwi again, reflecting a strong and respectful partnership that enriches the yearly celebrations. Everyone is welcome to come along, learn, and enjoy the warmth of the community as Whangamatā looks to the stars and welcomes the new year.

More details about times and locations will be shared closer to the date.
