You’d be forgiven for thinking The Coromandel might be winding down for the autumn months after the flurry of activities over the recent long weekends. Fear not, the creative haven that is the Peninsula is still buzzing with events. There are plenty of gigs, theatre shows, miscellaneous shindigs and workshops around town so go on, experience the arts this week.
Let’s start in Whitianga…
Saturday Night – The much-requested return of Spring Chicken band for some live music at the Monkey House.
Playing some great music from around the world. Rock n’ roll, blues, country rock, pop, soul, reggae, plus more. It’s always a great night with Spring Chicken – expect first class music played with a whole heap of passion from four dedicated musicians.
Looking ahead to next weekend, we have live music from Kylie Austin – an award-winning country music artist. Gray Barlett described her as: A remarkable, brilliant & uplifting vocal star. Catch Kylie at the Monkey House. You’ll want to get your tickets early for this one.
Over in Coroglen on Wednesday, you can have a mid-week chill with the Prana dance community. They will dance and then rest in a Gong Sound Bath for 15 minutes of euphoria. The lights are low, the music uplifting and the sound bath bliss! Go along and dance like no one is watching.
Moving on up to Coro Town, it’s your last chance to catch The Daylight Atheist on Saturday 30th April.
A funny, fierce, and profoundly moving play, performed by James Davis, and written by Tom Scott about his father. Irishman Danny Moffat tells stories of his life. With two showings one tonight and one tomorrow – it’s guaranteed to have the audience roaring with laughter. That’s at Hauraki House Theatre.
On Sunday, there’s more play news – the musical comedy: The Wedding Dress by Brooke Dennehy Lakin will hold a meeting will be at 4pm on the 1st of May 2022 at Hauraki House Theatre with all interested peoples to discuss the play, the roles, and to hear the music!
This is a big one! Albi And The Wolves set fire to stages and fill hearts with hope with their energetic and relatable alternative indie folk songs. Chris Dent, the proud albino frontman Albi, Pascal Roggen and Micheal Young have crafted a stage show that’s brimming with energy and moments to pause for reflection.
The trio has a huge sound created by an acoustic guitar, electric violin, double bass and their three voices. That’s Coro Town on Tuesday.
Over in Tairua, The Little Gallery is searching for the perfect gallery assistant.
Last but certainly not least, over in Whangamatā on Monday you can learn to create your very own beautiful watercolour and bouquet sketch in an interactive workshop from the talented Birdy Design. Merel (A.K.A. Birdy) recently completed the Whangamatā Pool mural, with support from the Creative Communities Scheme Funding.
