Commemorative Sculpture

Whangarahi Reserve,Coromandel

Expressions of Interest are sought to commission and create a commemorative piece to be sited at the Whangarahi Reserve to acknowledge the bi-centennial of the arrival of the HMSS Coromandel to these waters in 1820.

 

CRITERIA: The panel selecting the final piece will give consideration to, but not limited to the following design criteria:

PRESENTATION - development and research

AUTHENTICITY - use of local materials, appropriateness to the commemoration,consideration of heritage values

COMPLEXITY - compelling, engaging, interesting

WORKMANSHIP - knowledge of the materials to be used, attention to detail of construction

AESTHETICS - appropriateness to the site and surrounding environment

SUITABILITY - robust to withstand environmental conditions, including vandalism

 

Artists are asked to provide:

- An introduction of themselves

- A brief description of the piece, including size and materials to be used

- Indication of cost

- Photographic examples of some other works

 

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by April 2019. The successful artist will be expected to have the piece completed by April 2020 and provide the Coromandel200 Committee with updates of their progress over the 12 month period.
