Business Details

United Makers is a creative hub in the heart of Grahamstown, Thames, founded by

three friends and makers:

  • Amanda Ewing – second-generation potter and teacher

  • Kirsty Griffin – photographer

  • Viv Kernick – textile designer and potter

Our story began over a decade ago when we were lucky enough to acquire a retired potter’s full studio. We set up a shared workspace in an old family warehouse, where Amanda started a young potters club and private classes. Viv rediscovered clay , and the studio soon became a thriving space for other artists to work.

After time away, Amanda has returned to Thames, and together we’ve created United Makers: a place for teaching, learning, and showcasing handmade work. Our space includes:

  • A working pottery studio

  • A gallery and exhibition area

  • Workshops and classes for the community and visitors

  • A photography studio for Kirsty, with photography classes to come

United Makers is about sharing skills, supporting local creativity, and offering a welcoming place where people can make, learn, and connect.
