The coromandel artbeat spring festival is just around the corner and is launched this year by West Auckland ukulele legends The Nukes. The free-to-everyone concert  is a collaboration with the Thames Music Group and takes place at St George’s Church this Friday, 5 September, at 12:15pm. The Nukes will perform a their show called ‘A Road Trip in Song’.

This special launch performance blends The Nukes’ signature songwriting with a fresh twist – the inclusion of war-era classics that showcase the group’s warm four-part vocal harmonies. At the heart of it all is the humble ukulele, transformed in their hands into a truly musical and expressive instrument. Expect toe-tapping tunes, classic ballads, and moments of musical magic as The Nukes take you on a tour of Aotearoa – one story and one song at a time.

Note: For those unable to attend the launch concert, The Nukes will be performing a 2-hour show at Whitianga’s Monkey House Theatre at 7:30 pm on Saturday, September 6th.

Also, as part of the coromandel artbeat spring festival, The Nukes will run a special Ukulele workshop at the Monkey House Whitianga in the afternoon before their evening gig, at 3 pm – 90 minutes, including a refreshment break. The workshop is informative and interactive, suitable for all abilities, from children of all ages (8 to 88 years old). The Nukes will be there to assist, and ready to answer any of your musical questions. Expect to have fun and to take a bunch of songs away with you.

The Nukes have toured NZ and Australia extensively. They performed at

WOMAD NZ, Auckland & Canterbury Folk Festivals, Hamilton Garden Festival, New Plymouth Festival of Light, Wanaka Festival of Colour, Coastella, Southland Festival of Arts, Taranaki Festival of the Arts, Hawkes Bay Arts Festival, Bluff Oyster Festival, Erupt Festival Taupo, and more….

The coromandel artbeat spring festival is a lineup of creative events held throughout the Hauraki Coromandel and runs for three months each year, from September to December. Connect with the warm and vibrant grass-roots creative community spirit of this rohe, relax, slow down and have a break from it all.
