The Mercury Bay Arts Escape and the Exhibition Showcase have been scuppered by the nationwide move to Red.
Fans of art primed for a peak season of jaw-dropping open studios will have to wait a little bit longer.
The Mercury Bay Art Escape organisers have announced that both the open studios and the exhibition showcase that run in the first two weekends of March have been cancelled and are as yet to announce alternative plans. The decision was made to protect the health and safety of the community.
Here’s what the organisers say, “It’s with deep regret that we have to announce the decision to cancel the March 2022 Art Escape Open Studios and Showcase Exhibition
The Mercury Bay Art Escape attracts thousands of people from all over New Zealand, to see the at and meet the artists of Mercury Bay in their studios, which this year totalled 50 artists. Many of our artists open not just their studios, but also their homes to host this event. Taking this broader view we have concluded that the risk to our community as a whole is simply too high to proceed with the Open Studios and the Exhibition Showcase in March this year.
We appreciate that many people will be disappointed, but out priority has to be the impact of the choices we are making for the safety of our entire community, schools, families and workplaces.
To all our sponsors, artists and friends of Arts Escape, we thank you for your continued support.”
