Raewyn Hildreth’s processes have been refined over eleven years of weaving. It begins with growing different varieties of flax behind her studio, preparing and dyeing it, then weaving it.
She likes to document her work, taking photographs and recording details. In many ways the process is more important than the finished product, for it is in the making that there is much to discover, either about new ways of working or learning new things about myself. She feels privileged that people want to visit her studio and she loves being able to share weaving stories and offer her work for sale.
She has a Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts from Te Wananga o Aotearoa. She was also a member of Te Roopu Raranga Whatu o Aotearoa for several years and is grateful to teachers and raranga whanau (colleagues) who have been generous in sharing their knowledge and experience with her.
