Deborah Hide-Bayne
Coromandel Town
Artist, Author, Photographer
Deborah emigrated to New Zealand from the UK in 2003 and produces an eclectic mixture of watercolours, printmaking and collage. Her work is delicate and subtle, and shows the quiet observations she makes about herself and the world around her.
Trained as a printmaker at the prestigious London art school, Central St. Martins, Deborah worked in the UK for a number of years as an illustrator and fine artist. When she moved to NZ, she became preoccupied with the way of life here in Aotearoa, as well as a turning her passion for food from a hobby into a career.
In 2012, Deborah published a successful cookery book, Coromandel Flavour (second edition published in 2014), and in 2019 published her second book, Coastal - living the coastal life, cooking for the coastal table.
Coastal is a recipe and lifestyle book charting the building of a dream home with enjoyable detours on the way into making and doing things: art and craft projects, collecting seafood, making a vegetable garden and growing your own veggies, planting an orchard, smoking a fish, making sausages and many other projects, large and small.
