Flax Weaver
My processes have been refined over eleven years of weaving. It begins with growing different varieties of flax behind my studio, preparing and dyeing it, then weaving it.
I like to document my work, taking photographs and recording details. In many ways the process is more important than the finished product, for it is in the making that there is much to discover, either about new ways of working or learning new things about myself. I feel privileged that people want to visit my studio and I love being able to share weaving stories and offer my work for sale.
I have a Bachelor of Maori Visual Arts from Te Wananga o Aotearoa. I was also a member of Te Roopu Raranga Whatu o Aotearoa for several years and am grateful to teachers and raranga whanau (colleagues) who have been generous in sharing their knowledge and experience with me.
