Mercury Bay Art Escape Coromandel Peninsula is a collective of 50+ eclectic artists including potters, sculptors, painters, printmakers, photographers, flax weavers, woodworkers, mosaic artists, jewellers, a glass artist, and a furniture maker. The annual Open Studios is held over the first two weekends in March.
The popular self-guided tour of art studios continues throughout the year. Interested visitors can pick up a free Mercury Bay Art Escape Art Guide at local galleries and libraries or go to www.mercurybayartescape.com to arrange a unique art tour that highlights the creative talent in this spectacular area.
Artists are centred around the picturesque coastal area of Mercury Bay on the Eastern Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand, encompassing the areas of Hikuai, Tairua, Hahei, Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach, Whenuakite, Coroglen, Whitianga, Kuaotunu, Rings Beach, and Opito Bay.
The annual artist's open studios provide a unique opportunity to visit member artists in their studios, to see their work in progress, find what inspires them and what new art they are working on. It also gives you the chance to buy original work from some of the best artists in Mercury Bay direct from their studios.
Our vibrant arts scene is combined with world renowned tourist attractions, spectacular beaches and scenery. It’s a winning formula for locals and visitors alike. Stop at one of the region’s supporting cafés, galleries or vineyards between your studio visits and rest at comfortable accommodation to recharge your art appreciation batteries.
