The Whitianga Music Club has been formed to provide a friendly and supportive venue for local musicians to meet, play and jam together. We strongly believe that musicians get better by playing, and performing in front of an audience is an essential part of that process. We plan to meet once a month in the Coghill Arts Centre, in Coghill Street Whitianga.
MONTHLY MEETINGS WILL BE HELD ON THE 2ND FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH. The format is to have a 7pm start, with a short open mic session followed by a guest band or artist each month. They will play for half an hour, followed by more open mic sessions until we finish up. We'll have themed nights and an open blues jam session where you can join in. It's a perfect opportunity to try out new songs, grab a bass player or keyboards, saxophone player to help out on your songs. There is a PA provided, a small keyboard, bass amp, spare guitars (bass, acoustic and electric), and guitar amps. There is no drum kit at this stage but we may be able to provide one later. We have an upright piano now which is great news.
We want to encourage as much as possible musicians to feel comfortable trying out their original music. Play your own songs if you have them and we'll guarantee a receptive audience.
The bar service is being run by Creative Mercury Bay with food and nibbles provided free of charge. The Club is being promoted primarily on Facebook.
