WILKIE MAC & PENNI FEATHER
Sat
Nov 14
WilkieMac and Penni Feather are two NZ folk/acoustic acts, currently touring as a double bill throughout the North Island. They bring a mix of original songs, contemporary folk, traditional English and Celtic folk and a little blues.
Known for her ability to connect with audiences through song, Penni brings authenticity and depth to her performances. Ranging from trad folk and acoustic blues, to her originals in a contemporary folk style, her recent sets have included a number of folk protest songs that speak to today's issues.
Penni has previously been a guest artist at Hamilton and Wellington folk festivals. In the last couple of years she's had a one-woman show in the Hamilton Arts Festival and performed solo at the inaugural Raglan Country & Blues Festival. With heartfelt vocals - and a sometimes irreverent stage presence - Penni's solo sets have songs to inspire and beguile.
WilkieMac have earned a well-deserved reputation in NZ's folk scene. The duo craft their arrangements to create a multi-instrumental landscape for their Celtic, contemporary and original songs. Michael provides the solid backdrop on guitar, while Lynne brings a varied soundscape into the mix with flutes, whistles, guilele, harmonicas, and guitar. From close-your-eyes renditions of beautiful melodies to songs with rousing sing-along choruses, from the humorous to toe-tapping takes on the unexpected, every song chosen by the duo has a story behind it.
WilkieMac have been guests at a number of folk, acoustic, arts, and Celtic music festivals in New Zealand and Australia over the years. They released three highly acclaimed albums on CD in 2022 and 2023.
WilkieMac and Penni Feather will perform separately and together - instrumental variety and harmonies are guaranteed!
