"I have been living in Whitianga for 35 years. My Whakapapa is in Germany and my river is the Rhine. Early in my childhood I spent my evenings scrutinising and sketching my father’s face while he was watching the news. At the time my favourite artists were the impressionists. As a trained psychotherapist, art for me is just a way of expressing “SELF” rather than words. It’s a great tool to explore the conscious emotions, to play and find release of the pressure of daily life. In watercolour art you are ‘stuck with your painting’. Unforgiving t is not a medium to make it look better. I was privileged to have Julie Ferne as my teacher in watercolour art. She gave me the confidence to help me believe in myself as an artist. I have come to understand the need to paint as a very essential process of a deeper psychic expression of SELF. Every painting is beyond words, so feel free to translate whatever you see or feel."
