This September, the Kerepehi Brass Band is hosting the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Brass Band Association Regional Contest right here in Thames. It is set to be a spectacular weekend of brass music, with over 250 musicians across 9 brass bands competing. The festival has three main events that are all open to the public.
  • Saturday 28 September sees the Solo, Duet and Party competitions take place at Thames High School.
  • On Saturday evening at 7pm, the Best of Brass Concert will be held at St George's Anglican Church. This is an invitational event showcasing the winners from the day's contest and will be an amazing opportunity to see some of the region's top players in action. Definitely a performance not to be missed. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for under-5s.
  • Sunday 29 September is the big event - the Bands Festival. From 9am at the Thames War Memorial Civic Centre, bands take to the stage to show off the best of their abilities. This is an exciting day as the bands really push their limits to take home the trophies. Admission for the whole day is only $5.
