TMG presents Auckland Youth Choir

The Thames Music Group welcomes back the Auckland Youth Choir, directed by David Squire and accompanied by pianist Claire Caldwell. The choir was last in Thames in 2024, and had recently won a gold medal at the World Choir Games, this time, they have not long returned from their first international tour in 7 years, having taken a group of 47 singers to Australia to attend the Festival of Voices.

  Auckland Youth Choir is a 130-strong mixed voice group of singers aged 16–27 from across the city. The choir was set up in 1984 to bridge the gap between school and adult choirs and has had significant success since with innovative performances, large membership growth and collaborations with some of New Zealand’s preeminent musicians and arts organisations. AYC celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2024. Past projects have included singing at ANZAC commemorations at Auckland War Memorial Museum, premieres of several works by New Zealand composers, and collaborations with other choirs, orchestras and musicians from across the country and beyond. AYC enjoys regular performances at the Auckland Town Hall and consistently sells out concerts at St-Matthew-in-the-City. In 2016, the choir was part of a world premiere of Paul Mealor’s music in Carnegie Hall, New York City. In 2019, the choir won the choral section of the Australian International Music Festival and performed in the Sydney Opera House. In February 2026, AYC was proud to perform at the opening of the New Zealand International Convention Centre alongside internationally acclaimed band, Six60. Auckland Youth Choir concerts have been a highlight of the Thames Music Group Sunday concert series, and this concert is bound to be a treat for your ears!
