Musical husband and wife duo, Andrew Atkins (piano) and Caitlin Morris (cello) are leading the way, in the Wairarapa, combining performance, education, and community leadership with remarkable energy. They are bringing their magic to the Thames Music Group for the Sunday concert series on July 13th at 2pm
Andrew, a graduate of the New Zealand School of Music with a Master of Musical Arts in Classical Piano, has built a reputation as both a soloist and conductor. He’s performed concertos by Grieg, Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff with orchestras across New Zealand, and held the role of Assistant Conductor with Orchestra Wellington. Now Head of Music and Drama at St Matthew’s Collegiate, Andrew co-founded the Wairarapa Youth Orchestra with Caitlin in 2021, aiming to make music more accessible to young people in the region. Caitlin, a cellist and composer, has performed major concertos with orchestras including the Nelson Symphony, Kapiti Concert Orchestra, and Marlborough Civic Orchestra. She has also composed for film and theatre, with her work featured in award-winning films such as A Girl Called Elvis. Currently studying cello performance at postgraduate level, she teaches strings across the Wairarapa, bringing music into schools and rural communities.
