Te Toi o Matariki

An opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate the Māori new year.

6am - Hautapu ceremony community celebration at dawn

• Gather at 5:45am for 6am start on Kūaotunu Reserve (opp. Luke’s Kitchen)
• To finish when the sun has risen (7.29am sunrise)

9am - Exhibition opening at Kūaotunu Hall, all welcome

• Nine local artists have created artwork around each of the Matariki stars
• Art show running through the weekend, July 10 to 12

10am - 4pm Wānanga running in the garden of the hall. Demonstrations of harakeke, uku (clay), korero around kaitiakitanga (full programme TBC, more to come).

6pm (time TBC) - Bonfire Kūaotunu boat ramp. All welcome, BYO guitar and marshmellows.
