2026-01-17 2026-01-17 Make Art Materials from Plants
Create unique art supplies from wild-foraged and homegrown plant materials!
Emma and Sarah from Wild Studio are delighted to be offering a hands-on workshop on Sat 17th January, and a fully-catered Weekend Retreat from 220th-22nd Feb, both in the beautiful Kauaeranga Valley near Thames.
Both will be opportunities to deepen your connections to the natural world, and add another layer of richness to your art making
The day-long workshop covers a wide range of useful techniques for making natural art tools and media, including smudge-proof charcoal, handcrafted pens, and vibrant painting inks.
The Weekend Retreat offers the chance to really immerse yourself in the experience of gathering from nature and creating your art supplies completely from scratch.
LEARN TO MAKE:
artist's drawing charcoals (including smudge-proof charcoal) | rich black ink (with a water-resistant variation) | handcrafted dip-pens for drawing, writing and calligraphy | tannin-rich inks for writing and painting | brightly-coloured inks for painting.
The Retreat Weekend will also cover adjusting your botanical inks for use on fabric, foraging for materials, and simple brushmaking.
You will take home some natural art materials from either workshop, along with the skills and confidence to make more!
Come and treat yourself (and maybe bring a friend!) to an inspiring day, or days, of learning.
