Friday Lunchtime Concert Features Thames Citizens’ Band
Fri
Oct 16
Thames Music Group’s October Free Friday Lunchtime Concert, on Friday 16 October at 12.15 pm will feature Thames Citizens’ Band (TCB). As those of you who have attended previous TCB performances will know, TCB is not a traditional brass band, as it was in its roots, or even a concert wind band, as it later became. The current band does have brass and other wind instruments, but it also includes string instruments: at least one, slightly amplified, violin, a bass guitar, and, possibly, a double bass.
With members playing so many different instruments, often not their primary ones, the ensemble offers a constantly changing musical feast. This feast is not just well played notes, joyous rhythm, humour, and urge to move. It's conveying ideas, thoughts, and inspirations that are so hard to express with words. This concert’s feast has a very large dose of courage worthy of your being present to acknowledge it.
TCB members’ ages are as varied as their impressive variety of instruments, and TCB’s repertoire is equally broad and eclectic. All band members are invited to suggest music for the band to play, and the band choose their repertoire from that pool of options. This concert may include The Pink Panther theme and a piece by Debussy that has been arranged for the whole band. Have you ever heard Moon River on the Tuba? There may be a couple big band standards, and a surprise.
