Dub in the Valley
Fri
Feb 6
Come and celebrate the unity of Waitangi Day (and Bob Marley’s birthday) with an afternoon of reggae soundsystem vibes at the beautiful Kauaeranga Valley Hall - on the fringes of the Coromandel Forest Park.
Auckland soundsystem operator Red Robin is bringing his Reggae Rodeo (large speaker stacks and amps) to fill the valley with bass-heavy riddims spanning the full spectrum of the reggae atmosphere.
He’s joined by respected reggae vinyl DJs Undercover (Sandy Bay Social Club/Thames), Empress Naima (Auckland), Misteek (Welly/Thames) and a live dub set from Burning Soundz (Auckland) playing throughout the day.
It’s a laid-back affair, running from noon to 9pm. Bring your picnic, blanket, refreshments, water, (no food or alcohol sales onsite), the kids, your hat and sunscreen, and your dancing shoes - although barefoot is best.
Thames is only 90 minutes from Auckland, and the Kauaeranga Valley Hall sits just 10 minutes from the Thames township, nestled up the valley. It’s a perfect day trip, or make a weekend of it by pitching a tent and camping at one of nine DOC sites located just another 5-10 minutes further up the valley. Enjoy beautiful summer river swims, birdsong, and bush walks such as the popular Pinnacles Track.
The aim is simple: bring people together in unity to chill, dance, and enjoy good company - so bring your best vibes and manners.
This is a gold coin, non-profit community event, with any proceeds going to the Aotearoa Sounds for Jamaica Hurricane Relief Fund.
